Birthday/1st Blogiversary Giveaway!

uniandmeanyHi folks! I’m 27 years old today and still a nerd (albeit a cute nerd). I couldn’t be more excited to host this giveaway. Not only is 27 a pretty cool number, but it’s also a year since I purchased my first sex toys which led to my first orgasm, which then led to a better sex life! Woo-hoo!

BUT THAT’S NOT ALL! By starting this blog I became a part of a supportive community of sex positive, body positive, and plain brilliant folks from around the world. I’ve learned so much this past year and it’s awesome to know that I can reach out to these friends when I need help, advice, or a little boost of confidence. Thank you #Blogsquad, et al. Love you to pieces!

Thanks to Sexy Time Toys one lucky winner will receive a $50 giftcard toward sex toys and potentially orgasms of their own. This shop stocks quality, body-safe sex products and they sell many of the must-haves for anyone serious about pleasure. Use your prize toward the coveted Njoy Pure Wand, a powerful Magic Wand Rechargeable or a Lelo Mona 2! You won’t fall short of choices! Good luck and thank you for visiting my blog.

HAI, I’m in a box!

Lena’s Birthday/Blogiversary Giveaway!

Ask Lena: Did Humans Evolve Monogamy or Polygamy?

Rhesus Macaque with baby in India

Rhesus Macaque with baby in India

Not all men have penises, testes, etc. and not all women have vulvas, ovaries, etc. Many if not all of the questions submitted to me have been heavily gendered and I may have reworded the question to make it more inclusive. Please, take the following with a grain of salt, but always feel free to e-mail or comment with suggestions on wording.

The varying levels in energy expenditure of a sex that can get pregnant versus one that can impregnate are relevant when discussing the evolutionary fitness of primates (including humans, even if less relevant in modern times). The costs and benefits of any strategy differ between sexes, environments, etc.

“Did humans evolve monogamy or polygamy? What did we do originally?”

Have you ever heard anyone say something along the lines of, “I don’t believe in monogamy, it’s unnatural!” or “We marry once and for life, that’s what separates us from wild animals!”

I have. The reality is that while there are some clues as to what mating system humans were biologically equipped for; there are other factors that contribute to the system adopted by a species in a given environment. For instance, access to resources or a change in climate, population, etc. While most species flourish in specific environments, modern humans are unique in that they occupy a variety of habitats. Only recently have we been able to discuss mating between sexes without necessarily having to discuss reproduction as a result. Despite popular belief humans engage in all types of mating systems and all of it is natural. [Read more…]

Review: Bbold by Bswish

BBOLD2I want more people to enjoy body safe sex toys and affordability plays a major role in making that happen. On the surface, the Bbold by Bswish has a lot going for it. It has the features I look for in a quality vibrator and its smaller size is not as intimidating to me as other firm, curved, insertable vibes. To top it all off, it is available at Shevibe for $50 (MSRP $72.55)! Considering how difficult it is to find economical vibrators that are rechargeable and body safe, I was excited and full of hope upon receiving the Bbold. [Read more…]

Battling Body Shame: Part 1

WarwithmybodyPt1Trigger Warning: This post discusses body shaming and eating disorders

I often look back to a time before I was introduced to body shame. Growing up, my mother never criticized my brother’s or my physical appearance. We were skinny kids with scuffed knees and dark tans from hundreds of afternoons spent swimming under the California sun. At times she’d get upset that I’d take out the braid she did in the morning so that my hair hung loose and wild like a lion’s mane by the time I got home. “Don’t cry when it’s time to comb through that mess!” she’d say and I’d smile back despite knowing it would hurt terribly. I loved my body then. I didn’t know it of course, but I did.

Woodhull’s Sexual Freedom Summit 2015

SFS15TANTUSUNCUTThe first few minutes at Woodhull were difficult. I stuttered at check-in, rubbed my sweaty palms on my jeans, then stood to the side pretending to be on the phone while I collected my thoughts and took deep breaths. I could see a hallway leading to conference rooms full of people I had never met. Then I received a message from Reenie to meet her in the blogger’s lounge. I went and sat between Reenie and Mandi. There was coffee, chocolate, and porn star mega babe Nina Hartley enthusiastically giving relationship advice. I spotted a tall, busty red-head walking in and knew it was Lunabelle. I recognized Epiphora and Dizzy Girl at the other side of the table.

These were bloggers with brands and voices. Do I even belong here? Just then, Reenie stuck a blue ribbon onto my badge. ‘BLOGGER’ was now a part of my conference identity. If I didn’t feel like one before, the ribbon helped. I was there to learn, but also to cultivate my own voice as a blogger. I was nervous, but hoped that I’d find inspiration through the workshops and conversations I had ahead of me. I learned a lot (more than I can include in this post) about sexual freedom and myself during those few days at the conference, but I also had more fun than I could have ever imagined!

My First Giveaway!

boxgiveawayIf you haven’t already heard I am not very good at inserting things into my vagina. While this is something I have been working on, it’ll be awhile before I can insert girthy toys vaginally. I ordered the Tantus Cush 02 from Shevibe on a day I was feeling especially ambitious. My longing for a realistic-feeling, quality blue dildo surpassed my common sense and I completely disregarded the measurements (6.5” length, 1.75” diameter)  provided in the product description. When I was face to face with the Cush 02, I knew it could be months (years?) before I’d be comfortable to even attempt inserting it. However, my lapse in judgement is a major gain for one of you! I am very excited to give away this beautiful Tantus Cush 02 in “ice” along with two different 1.7 oz bottles of silicone-safe Pink lubricants and 1 bottle of toy cleaner pictured below to one lucky winner in the U.S.
